See exactly how far you are from the rim

Touch the rim, grab the rim, dunk. Dunkable turns your True Vertical and your standing reach into one honest figure: the centimetres of jump still between you and each of them.

That number sits on the home screen and shrinks as you train. It is the whole point of the app.

How it measures

240fps. 19 tracked joints. Physics does the rest.

Your phone records the jump at 240 frames a second. Dunkable finds the exact frames your feet leave the floor and touch back down, and hang time gives the height. It is the same flight-time method sports labs use with force plates.

The technique guard

Reps that cheat the timer get rejected

Pulling your knees up mid-air keeps your feet off the floor for longer and fakes extra hang time. Dunkable checks your legs are long at take-off and at landing, and throws out reps that do it.

If a rep cannot be read cleanly, the app tells you to go again rather than guessing. Only clean reps count. That is what makes your number real.

Why your number reads lower

Gym tests measure more than your jump

Jump-and-reach tests bundle three extras into the figure: your heels rising before take-off, a reaching arm, and usually a run-up.

About 11cm of it

In a 440-athlete study the same jumps scored roughly 11cm higher on a Vertec than by flight time (Muehlbauer et al. 2017).

12 to 14cm is heel rise

Your body is already 12 to 14cm higher at take-off than standing flat, before you have jumped at all (Aragón-Vargas 2000).

True Vertical includes none of it

Which is why everyone's reads lower. Dunkable tracks those extras separately, at the rim, through your rim checks, where they actually matter.

Train

The programme changes as your numbers do

Answer a few questions about your reach, your training history, your kit and the days you can train. Dunkable builds a weekly plan from that, then adjusts it as you log sessions.

Three weeks build, the fourth banks it. Finish drills cleanly two sessions running and they step up. Report soreness or pain and the plan backs off. Every exercise cites published research.

All processing on your phone. Your footage never leaves it.

Dunkable has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Your clip is written to temporary storage, analysed, and deleted when you leave the result screen. It is only kept if you tap Save or Share yourself.

There is no sign-up and nothing to hand over. Delete the app and every jump you have logged goes with it.

What does Dunkable measure?

Your True Vertical: how high your body actually rises from a standing start. Your phone films the jump at 240 frames a second, Dunkable finds the frames your feet leave the floor and land again, and hang time gives the height. It is the flight-time method sports labs use with force plates.

How accurate is it?

Dunkable is checked against people tagging the take-off and landing frames by hand, rep by rep. That work is still running, so there is no accuracy figure on the box yet. You will get one when it is earned. What holds today is the honest part: if a rep cannot be read cleanly, Dunkable tells you to go again rather than guessing.

Why is my number lower than the one I got at the gym?

Jump-and-reach tests bundle three extras into the number: your heels rising before take-off, a reaching arm, and usually a run-up. What do I need to film a jump?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, something to prop it against, and enough room to jump. Dunkable talks you through framing and stability before it records, counts you down, and analyses the rep on its own.

What does it cost?

Dunkable is free to download, and measuring your True Vertical is free. A paid tier for the training programme is planned for later. Nothing is charged today.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Dunkable is iPhone only for now. Android is on the roadmap, but measuring from video needs the camera to behave predictably, and that takes calibration work per device. No date promised until it measures as well as the iPhone version does.

Is it safe for younger players?

Dunkable asks your age bracket during setup and holds back the heavier plyometric work for under-18s. It is a training app rather than a medical one. Train within what your body tells you, and see a physio or a doctor about any pain that does not settle.
